Pauline Dunn

Pauline June Dunn, the daughter of Walter and May (Purcell) Smith, was born on April 30, 1927, in Creston, Iowa. Pauline entered eternal rest on August 16, 2013, at Greater Regional Hospice Home, Creston, Iowa at the age of eighty-six years.
Pauline lived in various places, but resided in Lake Station, Indiana for thirty-five years. On January 17, 1948, she married Hubert Wendell “Sam” Dunn at the home of her Aunt and Uncle in Creston.
Pauline worked as a waitress in Sherman, Texas and as a phone operator in Memphis, Tennessee. She made canteens and plates for the Army during WW II in Little Rock, Arkansas and worked at an ammunition plant in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Pauline also worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Washington building B-17 and B-29 bombers. After the war, she worked as a Nurse Aide in Hobart, Indiana and for General Mills in Chicago, Illinois. Pauline and Sam returned to Creston in 1981. Pauline last worked for the Area XIV Agency on Aging driving commodities until she retired in 1995.
Pauline was a member of the 1st Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School for many years and worked in the Church Nursery. She was also member of the Christian Womens Club and Business and Professional Women.
Left to cherish Pauline’s memory are her grandsons: Daniel (Shirk) Zamora, San Pedro, CA; and Tim Shirk, Lake Station, IN; her great-granddaughter: Dharma “Lulu” Zamora, San Pedro, CA; her son-in-law: F. Daniel Shirk, Gonzales, LA; and her nieces: Sherry Drenski, Cortland, OH; Shirley Smith, Marney, IA; Susan (Greg) Beaumont, Des Moines, IA; and Donna Miller, Creston.
Preceding Pauline in death were her parents; her husband in 1983; her son, Thomas Walter Dunn; her daughter, Sandra Shirk in 2011; her sisters: Alice Martin; Bessey Fern; Grace Hogueson; Daisey Fezzette; Eloise Shoemaker; Betty Conley; and Dorothy Little; her brothers: Jack, Pearl and Charles Smith; two infant sisters: Nellie and Georgie Smith; and two infant brothers.
