Richard Cantieri

Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Corning with Military Honors by Corning American Legion-Ourcq Post #117. Memorials may be made to the Adams County Community Foundation; the Corning American Legion; and/or St. Patricks Catholic Church.
Richard Wallace Cantieri was born on June 5, 1925 in Oak Park Illinois to John and Elizabeth (Gasparotto) Cantieri. He passed away on his birthday 83 years later in Corning Iowa.
His family moved to Corning, Iowa in 1930 to operate the Candy Kitchen. The family continued to own and operate the Candy Kitchen until Richard and Eleanor retired in 1988. He graduated from Corning High School in 1943 where he was active in various sports as well as music. Upon graduating he enlisted in the Army Air Force and served during World War II. After being discharged he returned to Corning, Iowa and joined the family business.
On January 15th, 1949 he was joined in marriage, at Saint Patricks Church, to Eleanor Olive of Corning, Iowa Their union was blessed with 5 children.
Richard Cantieri was a devoted husband, father, and community servant. He served as a member of the city council. He continued his love of flying by participating as a member of a local airplane club and was one of the founders of the 4th of July fly-in breakfast. In 1970 Richard was elected to the Adams County Board of Supervisors. He continued to serve on the board for the next 30 years. His other contributions included service on the Rosary/Alegent Hospital boards, the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and Corning Community Foundation. Richard was also an active member of Saint Patricks Church throughout his lifetime.
Rich is survived by Eleanor, his loving wife of 59 years, five children; Joan (husband Michael Lehman) of Anchorage, AK, Annette of St. Louis, MO, Paul (wife Kim) of Albuquerque, NM, Mark (wife Becky) of Mishawaka, IN, and Karen LeCocq (husband Todd) of Frisco, TX. Richard has eight grandchildren including; Brittney Morris, Brannon Morris, Jyl Cantieri, Marcus Cantieri, Daniel Cantieri, Emily Cantieri, Kyra LeCocq, and Tyler LeCocq.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John and twin brother Raymond, and sisters Dorothy Anne and DeAnna.
