Richard “Dick” Dale Oswald, the son of Arthur Lee and Enid Alberta (Detty) Oswald, was born on May 4, 1934 at Creston, Iowa. Dick entered eternal rest on August 1, 2009, at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, Iowa, at the age of seventy-five.
Dick served in the United States Army as an Airborne Ranger during the Korean Conflict and was Honorably Discharged on December 25, 1953. On March 2, 1956 he married Peggy Marie Wolard in Corinthian, Mississippi.
Dick lived in California for a few years and returned to Creston in 1972. Dick worked for the City of Creston when he returned from California. Then he went to work at Wellman Dynamics. He retired from Fansteel-Wellman Dynamics as a maintenance supervisor five years ago. He was a former member of the Creston Elks; a member of the Eagles Lodge; and a member of Wellmans Bowling and Golf Teams
Left to cherish Dicks memory are his children: Penny (Lloyd) Terry, Pleasant Grove, UT; Richard Oswald, Jr., American Fork, UT; Megan (David) Buchanan, Creston; Nine Grandchildren: T.J. Heller; Jenny Johnston; Adam Gault; Ryan Gault; Audrey Hartford; Katelynn, Emily, Elizabeth and Joshua Buchanan; Four Great-Grandchildren: Kiley and Nolan Heller; Griffin Johnston and Maycee Liljenquist; his brothers: Larry Oswald, Afton, IA; and Danny (Mary Lou) Oswald, Urbandale, IA; his sisters: Catherine Fluckey, Creston, IA; and Peggy (Dale) Sherer, Tempe, AZ; Sisters-in-Law: Sandy Oswald, Creston, IA; and Winnie Oswald, Butte, MT; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding Dick in death were his Parents; Wife, in 1996; Daughter, Debbie Gault; Son, Jerry Oswald; One Grandchild, Amanda Hartford; Five Brothers: George, Robert, Kenneth, Ronald, and Gary Oswald; One Sister, Evelyn Allen; and one brother-in-law, Joe Fluckey.
