Richard Dick Murdock

January 10, 1931 — March 4, 2013

Richard “Dick” Lee Murdock, son of Kenneth Earl and Esther Irene (Stillinger) Murdock, was born on January 10, 1931 in Mills County, Iowa. Dick passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, Iowa at the age of eighty-two years, one month and twenty-two days.
Dick attended rural schools in Adams and Taylor counties and graduated from Corning High School with the Class of 1950. Following high school, Dick drove a school bus until his enlistment into the U.S. Navy in 1950 during the Korean War Conflict. Dick was honorably discharged on October 27, 1954 from his duties as a Boilerman Petty Officer after serving his country for three years in the Mediterranean and the Antarctic. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal.
Dick returned to Adams County after his service to his country and was united in marriage to Kathleen Richie on November 14, 1954. For the next two years Dick and Kathleen farmed his fathers farm in Prescott Township until they purchased their own farm in 1956 where they have lived over 50 years, farming and raising livestock.
In Dicks younger years he enjoyed fishing and boxing. Dick was very proud of his boxing talents in various towns while in the Navy.
Left to cherish Dicks memory is his wife, Kathleen Murdock of Corning, IA; daughters: Teresa (husband Dan) Libby of Creston, IA and Annette Mitchell of Carroll, IA; four grandsons: Alex, Josh, Adam and James; brother, Robert (wife Laurie) Murdock of Moline, IL; sister-in-law, Phyllis Murdock of Independence, IA; brother-in-law, Bob Greening of Chicago, IL; life-long friend, Leland Inman of Corning, IA and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents: two brothers: Randall and Roger; sister, Carolyn Greening and infant sister, Alice Ann.
