Robert Bob Devore

Robert “Bob” DeVore, the only son of Harrison Hayes and Millie Louisa (Madison) DeVore, was born April 13, 1923 in Adams County, Iowa. Bob passed away at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa on Monday, October 27, 2014 at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 14 days.
Robert attended Country Schools in Adams County and graduated from Corning High School with the class of 1940. Robert entered the U.S. Army in 1944 and served with the 40th Infantry Division during WWII. Bob was honorably discharged in 1946; he returned home and married Mary Drake on November 10, 1946 at the First Baptist Church in Corning, Iowa. To this union two children were born, a son Rex and a daughter Dianne. Robert farmed until 1953 and then opened a welding and machine shop in Carl, Iowa. Robert enjoyed anything with a motor. In fact, Bob built one of the first riding lawn mowers in the Adams County area. He also enjoyed traveling, especially with the guys on an annual fishing trip to Canada. He was a member of the Williamson American Legion Post #719; Blacksmith Welder group and the United Methodist Church in Carl.
Preceding Robert in death were his parents, Hade and Millie; his wife, Mary DeVore; his son Rex DeVore; his grandson Noah Lind; his two sisters: Darlene Conatser and Naomi Johnston; and his two brothers – in – law: Clifton Conatser and Millard Johnston.
Left to mourn Roberts’ passing is his loving daughter Dianne (Dale) Lind of Atlantic, IA; daughter-in-Law Jeannine (Bob) Harris of Atlantic, IA; grandchildren: Holly (Jason) Wailes of Atlantic, IA; Brad (Lindsey) DeVore of Atlantic, IA; Amber Lind of Atlantic, IA; Adam Lind of Omaha, NE and six great- grandchildren.
