Robert H. Thomas

Robert Hiram Thomas, Jr., was born on July 30, 1937, to Robert Hiram, Sr., and Anna (Cohrs) Thomas near Conway, Iowa soon after moving to a farm east of Bushville, Iowa. Robert passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa at the age of seventy-five years and two months.
He attended Grove #8 and Holt #6 country schools in Taylor County and graduated from Corning High School in 1955. In 1957, he attended the Omaha University (UNO) and in 1963 graduated with a BS Degree in Education. In order to complete his education, Robert worked at various jobs, financing his education.
On December 5, 1959, he married Carol Vogel at the Fairview Christian Church. They are blessed with two children: Mike and Diane. Robert and Carol resided in Omaha, Nebraska where Robert was an agent for State Farm Insurance. In March 1983, they moved back to the Rimmer Farm, South of Corning, where he pursued his love of farming.
Robert was a member of the Masonic Lodge #275. He was a member of the Fairview Church until its closing and then joined the First Presbyterian Church of Corning.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Carol Thomas of Corning, Iowa; son, Robert Michael and fiancé Marsha of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter, Diane Lynn and husband Darrell Hein of Corning, Iowa; six grandchildren: Samantha, Hannah, Molly and Alec, all of Red Oak, Iowa and Russell and Rochelle Hein both of Corning, Iowa; sisters: Marian Barrans and Lillian and (husband Harold) Leonard, both of Lenox, Iowa; sister-in-law, Virginia (husband Otis) Philbrick of Mills River, North Carolina; four nephews; three nieces; great nephews and nieces plus many other family and friends.
Preceding Robert in death was his father, Hiram, mother, Anna; parents-in-law, Russell and Neva Vogel; brother-in-law, Bill Barrans and nephew, Randall Leonard.
