Robert Ytzen passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. There will be a Memorial Mass at Holy Spirit Catholic Church to celebrate his life at 11 A.M., Saturday, March 4, 2006.
Robert was born to Alma (Krueger) and Christian Yeppa Ytzen on May 25, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois. He attended St. Pascal Grade School and graduated with the class of 1942 from Schurz High School in Chicago. He attended the Allied School of Engineering in Chicago for one and one half years.
Robert served in the 45th Military Division of the United States Army during World War II from March 2, 1943 until December 1, 1945. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with Silver Battle Star, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Victory Medal World War Two, and four overseas service stars.
On May 9, 1953, Robert married Anna Mae Cox in Chicago. Robert lived in the Chicago area with his family until they moved to Creston in 1965 with the Hills McCanna Company. Robert was Vice President/Director of Quality Control at Wellman Dynamics Corporation, retiring in 1990. He worked in the foundry business his entire work career.
Robert was a member of the Creston Elks; VFW: and Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Left to mourn Roberts passing are his wife: Anna Mae Ytzen, Creston; his Sons: John Ytzen, Creston; Jim (wife Mary Jo) Ytzen, Des Moines; Don Ytzen, Kuwait; his Daughter: Nancy Ytzen, Urbandale, IA; Three Grandchildren: Amanda Ytzen; Abby Ytzen; and Andrea Ytzen; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding Robert in death were his parents.
