Robert John Urwin, the son of Robert Ralph Urwin and Susan Doris Seabourne, entered into eternal rest on December 19, 2006 at the age of 62 after a 6 year battle with cancer.
His life began on October 13, 1944 in the city of Sidmouth, County of Devon, England. At the age of two, his family came to reside in Rockaway, New Jersey. Here he attended Morris Hills High School (class of 1963) and moved on to Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska where he graduated in 1967. He continued with his education and earned his Masters Degree from Kearney State College in 1974. He chose a career in education where he taught physical education, served as director of athletics, and coached football for over 30 years. His career stops included Hopatcong High School in New Jersey, then nearly 20 years at Pope John XXIII High School in Sparta, New Jersey (where he coached his two sons), and finally on to Carroll Kuemper High School in Carroll, Iowa.
He loved coaching football. He enjoyed athletics and the opportunity to help young people reach their full potential. In addition to coaching, he enjoyed his hobbies as well. He enjoyed golfing and he dearly enjoyed his fishing.
Soon after college, he met and fell in love with Madeline Lee Olive of Corning, Iowa. One August 23, 1969, they wed and spent the next 37 years together. Through this union two sons were born; Robert Anthony on August 13, 1970 and Michael John on October 8, 1972. His son Robert followed his fathers steps and is coaching football at Glades Central High School in Belle Glade, Florida while Michael followed his fathers lead and is a regional account manager for GE in Phoenix, Arizona. Bobs cherished family was at his side when the Lord called him home.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Susan, father Robert, father-in-law Orlo F. Olive, and niece Nichole Sortino.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline; sons: Robert and Michael with daughter-in-law to be Lisa; brother, Daniel; sister, Betsy; mother-in-law Mary Olive, and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
