August 31, 1928 — August 2, 2009

Visitation will be open from 8:00 AM until the time of the service on Thursday morning. Burial will be at the Nodaway Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Rubys name.
Ruby Jean Bignell, the daughter of Harry and Calla (Hardin) Hardin, was born on August 31, 1928, at Ash Flat, Arkansas. Ruby entered eternal rest on August 1, 2009, at Corning Nursing and Rehab, Corning, Iowa, at the age of eighty.
Ruby was a self-educated woman. She married Lawrence Gray in 1943 and they later divorced. On July 30, 1960, Ruby married Leo Bignell. Leo died in 1995.
Ruby worked as a waitress, a cook and a bartender. She also worked in a factory. She later was a stay-at-home wife and mother and helped on the farm with the livestock. Ruby enjoyed cooking, gardening and preserving, crocheting, reading, writing poems and long letters. She spent as much time as possible with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren spoiling them. Her wish was to make sure they all remembered her. Ruby started making afghans and donating them to hospice just a few months before she got ill and was admitted to hospice herself.
Left to cherish Rubys memory are her children: David Gray, Jerome, ID; Jolene (Milton) Cox, Wendover, NV; Dan (Sherry) Gray, Terreton, ID; Dennis “Andy” (Jan) Gray, Fargo, ND; Rachel (Ronnie) Camden, Corning, IA; Robin (Fred) Burgess, Villisca, IA; Step-son: Dennis (Donna) Bignell, Searcy, AR; Step-daughter: Peggy (Terry) Tribble, Underwood, IA; Twenty Grandchildren; Twenty-five Great-Grandchildren; Four Great-Great-Grandchildren; her brother-in-law: Dwight Bignell, Columbus, NE; her sisters-in-law: Helen Hardin, Liberty, MO; Doris (Dan) Wulff, Lamonte, MO; Mildred Hardin, Gallatin, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Ruby in death were her parents, Harry and Calla Hardin; Husband, Leo Bignell on May 26, 1995; Seven Brothers: Frank, Carl, John, Cecil and Sam Hardin; James and George Hardin in infancy; Three Sisters: Jesse Woodard, Lodena Gilmore and Ruth Bouldin; Two Granddaughters: Toni and Sherry Stewart.
