Samuel Sam Smith

Samuel “Sam” Frederick Smith, son of Donald Frederick and Geneva Lorine (Harlan) Smith, was born December 16, 1946, in Red Oak, Iowa. Sam entered eternal rest Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Good Samaritan Center, Fontanelle, Iowa, at the age of seventy years, one month, and twenty-six days.
Sam spent most of his adult life in Adair County, Iowa, in the Greenfield and Fontanelle area. He also lived in Creston, Iowa, on two separate times. When Sam was able to work, he worked as a farm hand. He also worked at the Henry Field and Mt. Arbor Nurseries as a laborer.
Sam loved to be outside mowing lawns for his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing. One of Sam’s favorite past times was making crafts while residing at the nursing home. Family was most important to him and he loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He thought of them like his grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish Sam’s memory are his brothers: Ronnie (Teresa) Smith, Griswold, Iowa; Gary Smith, Carbon, Iowa; Tom Smith, Carbon, Iowa; sister: May (Johnnie) Land, Afton, Iowa; several nieces, nephews; great nieces, great nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding Sam in death were his parents; and one brother: Robert Smith.
A private family inurnment will occur at a later date.
