Shirlee Deahl

March 29, 1932 — January 7, 2014

Shirlee Marie Deahl, daughter of Harry Truman and Mildred Mae (Cole) Briggs, was born on March 29, 1932 in Afton, Iowa. Shirlee entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at her home in Corning, Iowa at the age of eighty-one years, nine months and nine days.
Shirlee lived in Afton, Iowa until she was a young adult. She attended Afton High School and graduated with the Class of 1950. Shirlee began working as a secretary for Afton High School in 1957. She continued as secretary after Afton was consolidated to East Union High School.
On April 10, 1974, Shirlee was united in marriage to Veldon Deahl in Creston, Iowa. In March of 1975, the couple made their home in Corning, Iowa. It was during this time Shirlee went to work for Corning High School, retiring in 1987. During her retirement, Shirlee and Veldon enjoyed traveling. Shirlee took great pride in volunteering on the board for the Corning Opera House, seeing its restoration from the beginning to its completion.
Shirlee was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and former member of the Women’s Club and P.E.O. She enjoyed bird watching, maintaining her flower gardens and treasured time spent with her family and friends.
Left to cherish Shirlee’s memory are her children: Tracy (Ed) Bell of Virginia Beach, VA, Kim Partridge (significant other, Steve) of Newton, IA, Lin (Jim) Deahl-Coy of Ferndale, MI, Randy Deahl of McCallsburg, IA, Jody (Cletus) Dixon of Laurel, IA, Pam (Mark) Moore of Dayton, IA and Larry (Becky) Deahl of Winterset, IA; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister, Virginia Seeley of Grinnell, IA and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Shirlee was preceded in death by her parents; husband Veldon Deahl; brother, Truman Briggs; sister, Marjorie Mikkelsen; niece, Lori Mikkelsen and nephew, Gary Mikkelsen.
