Stu Nielsen

Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Corning. Memorials may be directed tot he family.
Stu was born in North Platte, Nebraska on July 18, 1947, to Ingvar and Evelyn Stewart Nielsen. While growing up in North Platte, Stu developed his lifelong love of debate and politics. After graduation from North Platte High School in 1965, Stu attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. While at Nebraska, Stu discovered two great, life long loves - his future wife, Ann and Cornhusker football. Stu graduated from UNL in 1969 and married Ann on June 7 of that year. That fall Stu enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served for 5 years-first as an enlisted man and then as an officer-attaining the rank of Lieutenant JG. Stu and Anns first daughter Christie was born in 1972 in Maryland. Stu was discharged from the Navy in July of 1974 and returned with Ann to Lincoln where they both started law school that August. Stu and Ann graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Law in December of 1976. In April of 1977 they moved to Corning to join Byron Stanley in the practice of law. Stu and Anns youngest daughter, Stephanie, was born in 1980 in Corning. Stu and Ann practiced law in Corning and Creston for the rest of his life. Stus passion was advocating for and working with children. He assisted with the Junior High Mock Trial in Corning for many years.
Stu loved life, morning coffee, his family and friends. Stu could be seen day and night, rain or shine, working in his yard. His biggest disappointment was his failure to successfully raise asparagus.
Stu and Ann loved to travel. They created many special memories. In recent years, Stu enjoyed their trip to his fathers home country of Denmark, to Disney World with his grandchildren and to Rome, Greece and Turkey to celebrate Stu and Anns 40th wedding anniversary.
Stu is survived by his wife, Ann; his daughters: Christie and Stephanie; son-in-law, Jason Goodrich; grandchildren: Ella, Sam, and Ava; his sister, Sara Nielsen; his brother, Kirk Nielsen and wife, Susan; three nieces and nephews: Michelle, Mindi and Tim. Stu was very close to Anns family, sister, Mary Rockwell and husband, Randy; Anns brother, Bruce Zimmerman and wife, Lesta; Anns brother, Mark Zimmerman and wife, Julie and all of their children: Jessica, Eric, Andrew, Ryan, Trent, Spencer, Reid and Rylee.
Stu was preceded in death by his parents: Ingvar and Evelyn Nielsen and his mother and father-in-law: Hugo and Doris Zimmerman.
Stu was so proud of his family and the accomplishments of his daughters and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed
