Thomas Scott

PVT. Thomas “Tom” David Scott (1944-2012)

Tom was born on Thursday, February, 24 1944, in Indiana to Bernadine and Chester Scott. He was one of many siblings. In November of 1964, he commenced training as a member of the Company C, 3D Battalion, 2D Regiment at the U.S. Army Engineer Training Center in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He completed his training in January of 1965. In March of 1965, at the age of twenty-one, he successfully completed the Petroleum Storage Specialist Course and earned a diploma from the U.S. Army Quartermaster School in Ft. Lee, VA.
In 1975, Tom met Virginia Lee (Householder-Coburn) McElroy, and they had a daughter together named September Dawn McElroy in 1976. During his later years he lived in a care facility named Country Haven in Corning, IA where he enjoyed the group activities, especially watching the races at the Adams County Speedway. He enjoyed drawing and won several ribbons at the Adams County Fair. He also loved playing guitar, watching old western movies, listening to country music, and chatting with the other residents and staff.
Tom passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning, IA at the age of sixty-eight.
Preceding him in death are his parents Bernadine and Chester Scott, a brother Lee Scott, and two sisters Shirley and Carol Scott.
Tom is survived by his daughter September Dawn McElroy of Shenandoah, IA and his granddaughters Mikayla and Madisyn Rostro of Shenandoah, IA, his three sisters Linda Woods of Sunset, UT, Barb Sheehan of Omaha, NE, and Darlene of Indiana, and two brothers John Scott of Washington and Jack Scott of Kansas.
Viewing was officiated by Bruce Pearson of Pearson Family Funeral Service in Corning, IA on Monday, March 5 2012 at 6:30 P.M. Toms remains will be cremated by Southwest Iowa Cremation Services in Creston, IA, and he will be laid to rest with his mother.
