Timothy A. Simpson

April 29, 1964 — October 26, 2011

Timothy A. Simpson of Corning, Iowa, passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the age of forty-seven years old. Tim was born on April 29, 1964 to D.C. and Janice (Stringham) Simpson in Independence, Missouri and welcomed home by his older brother Randy.
Tims early years were spent in Independence and later in Kellerton, Iowa, attending school in the Mt. Ayr school district, graduating from Grand Valley School in Kellerton, Iowa in 1982. He continued his education at Northwest Missouri State University, graduating with the class of 1986 with a degree in Industrial Arts.
Tim worked at several jobs in Mt. Ayr until taking a job at Akin Lumber Yard in Corning, Iowa where he was employed 22 years until he was no longer able to continue as he had been diagnosed with colon cancer eight years previous. Tim waged a courageous battle and was a great encouragement to all he came in contact with.
Tim married Chris Surrell on April 16, 1994, becoming a father to Dustin and later welcoming a daughter, Brandi Nicole, who immediately became her daddys pride and joy and Dustin was his little man.
After Tims diagnosis, knowing he had a big battle ahead of him, he obtained his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was privileged to take several trips with his wife Chris and daughter Brandi or riding with his biker family going out all over the United States. His final trip was made with his daughter Brandi accompanying him on the bike and meeting up with his son Dustin on his Harley Davidson. Their trip led them to Memphis, Tennessee and many other places along the way, returning home the last week of July this year.
Tim had a strong passion for NASCAR and his Kansas City Chiefs. In October of last year, Tim attended the Kansas City Chiefs game with his son Dustin and nephew Bobby and while Tim was in the hospital, Dustin worked hard with the Kansas City Chiefs to obtain a Derrick Johnson autographed football for him.
Tim was a great inspiration to all who knew him and he enjoyed his association with the lumber yard and his customers, helping them with their planning projects or purchases needed. Tim worked as a reserve police officer for several years and security at the Adams County Speedway for many years, joined by his daughter Brandi in the last couple years.
Tim is survived by his wife, Chris; son, Dustin (Ashley); daughter, Brandi; Tims most treasured two little granddaughters: Grasye Mae and Kailey Jo Surrell and other relatives and friends.
Tim is also survived by his mother Janice and Eldon Still; brother, Randy (Athena) Simpson and family; Brad Still and family and Beth (Still) Combs and her family.
Tim will be remembered by a host of other relatives and numerous friends and will be greatly missed and admired by his family and many friends.
