Velda Perrin

April 29, 1919 — May 31, 2006

Velda Maureen Perrin, the daughter of James M. and Fern Corrina Goldsmith, was born April 29, 1919 on a farm in Adams County, Iowa. Velda entered eternal rest on May 31, 2006, at Bergan-Mercy Hospital in Omaha, at the age of eighty-seven years, one month and one day.
As a child she lived on a farm. She graduated from Corning High School with the class of 1936.
In 1936, Velda Goldsmith and James Castillo were united in marriage. Four children were born to this marriage: one daughter, Donna Fern; sons, Larry James and twins, Richard James and Robert Edward. The family lived in Corning until her marriage to Hollis Perrin in 1960. Hollis had three children, Dorothy, Donald and Donna Perrin. She and Hollis moved south of Corning where they ran a sheep shearing and fur business.
Velda worked at McClelland Drug Store for almost 20 years. She worked in the fur business as it grew; and in the summertime, Velda and Hollis would travel to a variety of locations throughout the country to shear sheep. While on these trips, she met many friends, who she kept in touch with for years. Also during the summer, Hollis and Velda would exhibit and display their collection of Indian artifacts and old traps in various towns. They would spend many hours making new friends and talking about their collections.
Preceding Velda in death were her parents, James and Fern Goldsmith, husband Hollis Perrin, a grandson Eric Castillo and step-daughter, Dorothy Perrin Anderson.
Velda is survived by her children: Donna (Dean) Carothers of Phoenix, Arizona; Larry Castillo (special friend Kim Henderson) (close family friend, Kathryn Castillo) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Richard (Judy) Castillo of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Robert (Connie) Castillo of Stanton, Iowa; step-son Donald (Judi) Perrin of Corning, step-daughter, Donna (Ed) Ortgies of Atlantic, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and other relatives and friends.
