Velma L. Timmerman

April 22, 1917 — March 18, 2008

Burial will be at Nodaway Cemetery.
Velma Lois Timmerman, the daughter of Millen Thompson and Sarah Emelia (Olson) Thompson, was born on April 22, 1917. Velma entered eternal rest on March 18, 2008 at Corning Nursing and Rehab in Corning, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 27 days.
Velma married Robert M. Timmerman on January 9, 1942 in Fairfax, MO. Seven children were born to bless this union: Joan K; Jean M; Lois A; Dean M; Diane L; Robert Jr. and an infant daughter.
She was a housewife throughout her life; however, she worked as a cook for Colonial Manor for several years. Later in life, Velma worked at Corning Nursing and Rehab and part-time at Happy Hollow Country Club.
She was a member of Strand Lutheran Evangelical Church in Villisca, Iowa. Velma cherished her children and grandchildren. Even though she was an only child, Velma sought out first cousins, throughout the states, and remained very close to them. She never missed the opportunity to send a birthday card to anyone. She self-taught herself how to crochet at the age of 60, and was very proud of her colorful creations. She embraced her Son-In-Laws and her Step-Grandchildren with open arms and an open heart. Her hobbies included her plastic canvas creations, found throughout her home, crosswords, and her love of baking, always without a recipe to follow. Undoubtedly, Velma will best be remembered for her famous smile that lit up the room and whoever was in it. She passed that precious gift down to her grandchildren.
Left to cherish Velmas memory are her children: Daughters: Joan (husband Marion) Niemeyer, Omaha, Nebraska; Jean (husband Larry) Anderson, Treynor, Iowa; Lois (husband Paul) Pfundt, Lincoln, Nebraska; Diane (husband Gary) Badgett, Corning, Iowa; Son: Dean (wife Janet) Timmerman, Ponca City, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding Velma in death were Parents: Millen and Sarah Emelia Thompson; Husband: Robert Timmerman; Children: Robert Timmerman Jr. and infant daughter Timmerman.
Memorials made be made in Velmas name to: Corning Nursing and Rehab; Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning or Just Friends in Corning.
