Vera P. Emerson

Vera Pearle Farnsworth was born March 1, 1923, in Pleasant Township, Afton, Iowa, to Lester John and Pearle (Nee LeCocq) Farnsworth. She attended schools in Afton, Prescott, South Sioux City, Nebraska, and graduated from Creston High School in 1940.
She married Lincoln Richard Emerson of Creston, Iowa, on September 10, 1941, in Kenmore, New York. To this union, three sons were born, Donald Richard “Rich”; Lincoln Jeffrey “Jeff”, and Joel Ray Emerson.
Most of her life was spent in Creston with the exception of 2 years in New York and 3 years in Des Moines. Vera worked for the Iowa Legislature and the Department of Agriculture in Des Moines. She was an Executive Secretary for Midwest Credit, and co-owner of Emerson Kitchen and Bath serving as a Designer for 24 years. Vera was a member of the American Institute of Kitchen Dealers and was a Realtor for Stewart Realty.
Vera was a member of Bancroft History Assembly, Creston Womans Club, Crestmoor Golf Club, Hospital Auxiliary, Morning Worship and the First United Methodist Church, Chapter AZ PEO and the same bridge club for over 50 years.
Survivors include her three sons, Rich (wife Sally) Emerson of Ferndale, Washington; Jeff (wife Jody) Emerson of Creston; and Joel (wife Merri) Emerson of Creston; Grandchildren: Matthew Richard Emerson of Story City; Christopher Nathan Emerson of Des Moines; Ryan Jeffrey Emerson of Ames; Shannon Joell Emerson of Des Moines; Joel Jerome Emerson of Iowa City; and Mackenzie Link Emerson of Creston; and one Great-Grandson, Javin Jaxson Fowler of Creston. Also surviving is her sister, Ruth Fisher of Glenwood, Iowa.
Vera was preceded in death by three brothers: Earl, Raymond and Robert Farnsworth; and sisters: Marie Storm and Shirley Murphy; her mother, Pearle LeCocq Farnsworth in 1986; and her husband, Dick, passed away July 5, 1991.
Vera loved her family, grandchildren, home, friends, traveling, and fun. She requested cremation and a church memorial service.
