Vera Snyder, daughter of Floyd L. and Myrtle (Smith) Campbell, was born in Cass County, near Elliott, Iowa, on July 2, 1909. Vera entered eternal rest on Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Corning Nursing and Rehab Center in Corning, Iowa at the age of one-hundred years.
Vera graduated from Elliott High School. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Herbert Snyder in April of 1932 and three children were born to bless this union: Marjorie, Norma and Lawrence.
Vera was a farmwife and homemaker and lived her entire life in either Adams or Cass County. Vera was a great mother and along with her husband, were self-sustaining farmers. The couple grew, gardened and canned their own food and butchered their own cattle and hogs. She was fiercely independent and very frugal. Vera always had cookies in the cookie jar and ice cream in the freezer. She had a passion for both water-color and oil painting of wildlife scenes from the area she lived in and from photographs. Vera loved to fish and Mick fondly remembers one summer that she took him fishing almost every day.
Lest to cherish her memory is her daughter, Norma (husband James) Brose of Des Moines, Iowa; son, Lawrence Michael (wife Carol) Snyder of Independence, Missouri; six grandchildren: Kathy Egge, Jeff Brose and Tanya Brose all of Des Moines, Iowa and Tony Wintz, Jenna Wintz and Seth Snyder all of Independence, Missouri; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Snyder in 1976; daughter, Marjorie (husband John) Egge; three sisters: Velma Inman, Quilla Dhone, Verda Boham and grandson, Steve Egge.
