Vern Marler

Vern J. Marler, the son of Joseph Anderson and Gertie Beatrice (Hathaway) Marler, was born August 18, 1922, at Tingley, Iowa. Vern entered eternal rest on September 1, 2008, at the Danville Care Center, Danville, Iowa, at the age of eighty-six.
Vern graduated from Tingley High School. He married Helen Martha OGrady on December 27, 1943, at Maloy, Iowa. Vern lived in Union County most of his Life. He lived in northern Iowa for a short time then moved to Lamoni and lived there from 1954 to 1973. Vern has been in Danville since October, 2000. Vern farmed the majority of his life. He also worked as a sand-mixer in the molding department at Wellman Dynamics in Creston, Iowa, from 1973 until 1984.
Vern was very active in the Cozy Campers Club and they wintered in Texas each year. Vern had a woodworking shop where he made quilt racks, clocks, ornaments, magazine racks, etc. and that was a big part of his life.
Left to cherish Verns memory are his children: Jeanne K. (Dean) Stewart, Burlington, IA; Janice E. Marler; Robert J. (Rita) Marler, Maryville, TN; and Marilyn S. (John) Cavanaugh, Chariton, IA; Seven Grandchildren; Twenty-Two Great-Grandchildren; and One Great-Great-Granddaughter; his sister: Thelma Whitson, Creston, IA; his sister-in-law: Wilma Marler, Armstrong, IA, and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Vern in death were his Parents; Wife, Helen on April 3, 2001; Four Sisters: Eva (as an infant); Beulah Perkins; Vira Wilson; Lorene Marler; and one Brother: William Marler.
