Virginia Janie Means

August 29, 1929 — June 22, 2013

Virginia Irene (Cozad) Means was born on August 29, 1929 in Adams County, Iowa to Thomas and Hazel Cozad and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in Villisca, Iowa at the age of eighty-three years.
Virginia, known to many as “Janie”, was raised in the Carbon area by her “Aunt Dickie” and “Uncle” Tom and Mary McMorran. They lived on a small farm where Janie learned to love, nurture and respect all the beautiful things that nature has to offer. She always had a special love for all dogs and birds.
Janie attended school until the 8th grade in the Carbon area.
Janie met, fell in love and was married to Kenneth Means on August 2, 1946 at the Methodist Church in Corning, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Judy Alice; Jerry Franklin; Sherry Lillian; Melody Irene and Tammy Lynn; seventeen grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Kenny and Janie remained in the Carbon area most of their entire, married life where they raised their family. Janie loved gardening and every year it was a “family tradition” to involve all their children in the planting, weeding, harvesting and preserving of all the goodies from the garden.
Janie worked for a short period of time outside the home at the Corner Café in Corning and Wellmans Dynamic’s in Creston, fortunately for her she later found her “perfect job” raising and selling German Shepherd puppies from her home. Virginia’s love for animals was exceeded only by her love for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed all their visits and many stories and “special moments” were shared with grandma.
In 2004, she and Kenneth moved and made their home in Brooks, Iowa. Kenneth passed away later that year.
Left to cherish her special memories are her children: Judy (husband Roger) Van Syoc of Sidney, Iowa; Melody (husband Joe) Zadina of Corning, Iowa and Tammy (husband Lynn) Means of Cumberland, Iowa; all of her grandchildren; a dear friend and son-in-law, Billy Yarrington; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Virginia in death were her parents; Aunt and Uncle Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McMorran; her husband Kenneth; daughter, Sherry Yarrington; and son, Jerry Means.
