Wallace Ed Reed

Wallace Edward Reed, resident of Corning and Oskaloosa, son of Wallace Wiley and Ethel Madeline (Gale) Reed, was born on March 6, 1937 in Carbon, Iowa. Ed entered eternal rest on Friday, July 1, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of seventy-four years, three months and twenty-five days.
Ed attended rural school in Quincy and Corning High School. Ed was a heavy equipment operator where he graded the roads constructed in the State of Iowa. Prior to his construction work, Ed owned and operated a distribution center for Pepsi based in Corning. Ed also worked various jobs over the years. He picked up milk from local dairy farmers for several years and worked for Mormon Feeds from Prescott.
In 1956, Ed married Julie Hofmeister. Later, Ed married Linda Joslin. On November 14, 1998 Ed was united in marriage to Janet Nelson in Corning, Iowa.
Ed was a Boy Scout Leader for several years in the Prescott area. He was a member of the Circle Lodge #555, the Masonic Lodge in Prescott and was a volunteer fireman in Prescott in the 1970’s. Ed was instrumental in starting the Adams County Speedway where he drove a racecar for several years. Ed enjoyed his trips to Branson and Florida and was a huge fan of NASCAR. Ed’s hobbies included fishing and hunting.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Janet Nelson-Reed of Corning, IA; sons: Robert “Bob” (wife Peggy) Reed of Stanton, IA, Roderick “Rick” (wife Janet) Reed of Creston, IA, Randall (wife Kim) Reed of Prescott, IA, Wade (wife Janelle) Reed of Orient, IA; daughters: Jennifer (husband Eldon) Ray of Orient, IA, Melissa (husband Jason) Bennett of Des Moines, IA; step-son, Joe (wife Kathy) Nelson of Oskaloosa, IA; step-daughter, Christine (husband Dean) Neubauer of Slater, IA; faithful companion “Sparky”; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; niece, Lorri (husband Bill) Boeckholt of Surprise, AZ; nephew, Terry (wife Sandy) Dillinger of Indianola, IA.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Dillinger and brother-in-law, Virgil Dillinger.
