Wanda E. Moore

July 24, 1923 — October 30, 2017

Wanda E. Moore, daughter of Roy Levi Eschle and Winnie Ireen (Looney) Eschle, was born in New Richland, Minnesota on July 24, 1923. Wanda moved with her family to Cromwell when she was a young girl and was educated in the Cromwell School. She was athletic and played forward on the high school 6 on 6 basketball team. Wanda graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1942.
Wanda completed Teacher’s Training in Omaha, Nebraska and taught Country School in Union County until her marriage to Bernard “Barney” Moore on February 11, 1945 at the United Methodist Church in Creston. One daughter, Sandra, was born to this union.
Wanda worked for JC Penney in Creston as a retail sales clerk for 40 years. She retired in 1986 when the store closed. During her retirement, Wanda loved to snowmobile, quilt, and attended many Hawkeye football games. She enjoyed tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and she always made sure the family went on summer vacations.
Wanda was an active member of the Cromwell United Church of Christ since 1942. She volunteered many hours of her time to help with the church dinners. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Barney, in 2002; her parents; brother, Lyle Eschle; two sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-law, Doris and Keith Hood, Lavetta and Arnold Burkhalter; and nephew, Shawn Platt.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Sandra (Les) Carlson, Creston; two granddaughters: Tracey (Shawn) Lauer, Creston and Treana (Justin) Johnson, St. Charles, IL.; five great-grandchildren: Jake (Maggie) McGehee, Ashley McGehee, Brooke McGehee, Luke Johnson and Cassandra Johnson; brother, Drexel Eschle, Falls Church, VA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and her many friends.
