Wanda Lee Tindall died on June 18, 2014, in Corning, Iowa, after a long life full of teaching, volunteering, family, and friends.
Wanda was born on July 21, 1924, in Adams County, Iowa, to Charles and Emma Cordelia Carr Tindall. Wanda graduated from Corning High School and began a dedicated forty-seven year teaching career. She taught in rural one-room schools for seventeen years, then shared her teaching talents for thirty years at the Corning Elementary School. Wanda received BS and MS degrees in education from Northwest Missouri State College.
Wanda was a very active volunteer and community leader. She was a member of the National Education Association at the State and County levels, Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority, and the Creston Area Retired School Personnel Association. A long-time member of the Business and Professional Women (BPW), Wanda was named their 2001 Woman of the Year. She was active in the Corning United Methodist Church and the Women’s Association. She served on the Kid Care Extension Council Group and Adams County Empowerment.
Wanda gave thousands of hours of her time and talent to Main Street Corning. She was honored with the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year award at the 2003 Iowa Main Street Awards for her dedication to downtown revitalization by enhancing development in Corning and the State of Iowa.
Wanda enjoyed music, playing cards, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends.
Wanda is survived by her dear friend, Marvin Steffen; sister, Lorene Briles; nephews Duane Tindall, Ed (Brenda), Jim, and Tom (Cindy) Briles; nieces Patsy Huntsman, Cheri (Chuck)Griffith, Natalie (Bob) Shipman, Bev Tindall, Michelle (Doug)Leonard, and Dory Briles (Jim Christenson); special friends Ray and Marj Reynolds and their children Todd (Kristy) and Blythe (Ralph) Abalo; and a host of other beloved family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers James (Edna), Vaughn (Marie), and Clifford (Mabel).
