Wilbur H. Clayton

Wilbur Henry Clayton, the son of William Henry and Anna Mae (VanVleet) Clayton, was born on March 18, 1909 near Greenfield in Adair County, Iowa. Wilbur entered eternal rest on June 16, 2008, at Creston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Creston, Iowa, at the age of ninety-nine years.
Wilbur graduated from Zion High School with the Class of 1925. On May 8, 1936, he married Velda Mae Rectenbaugh in Creston at the Methodist Parsonage. Wilbur and Velda farmed in Lincoln Township in Union County until moving to Creston in 1976.
Wilbur was a Member of the Jerusalem Methodist Church; Member of the Lions Club for about five years; Member of the Union County Fair Board for many years; Member of the Lincoln Chapel E.U.B. Church until it burned; Served as a 4-H Leader and was very active in 4-H; Served on the School Board for Lincoln #1 for many years.
Left to cherish Wilburs memory is his Daughter: Carol (Don) McIlravy, Jamestown, ND; Daughter-in-Law: Betty (Dean) Wallace, Creston; Six Grandchildren; Fourteen Great-Grandchildren; One Great-Great-Granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding Wilbur in death were his Parents; his Wife, Velda in 1996; his Son, Nathan Clayton in 1970; Two Brothers: Wayne and Albert Clayton; One Sister: Tressa Means; and a special Nephew: Clayton Means.
