William Paul

Dr. William “Bill” Paul was born to Edith Annie (Rundle) and Jed Stephen Paul on March 5, 1923 in Lead, South Dakota. Dr. Paul entered eternal rest on May 22, 2005, at the Creston Nursing and Rehab Center in Creston, Iowa, at the age of eighty-two years, two months, and nineteen days.
Bill grew up in Lead, South Dakota. He was an Eagle Scout in High School. He graduated from Lead High School in 1941. While he was attending college he joined the Naval Reserve in the V-12 Program. Bill pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of South Dakota. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Tennessee Medical School in 1947. Bill served his medical internship in Hammond, Indiana. He took his surgical residency in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Rochester, New York.
Upon completing his surgical residency, Dr. Paul joined the V. A. Hospital in Minot, North Dakota. He then went to the V. A. Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. Dr. Paul retired as Chief of Surgery at the V. A. Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota in 1984. He moved to Creston, Iowa, in 1985.
During the Korean Conflict, Dr. Paul was commissioned a medical officer with the U. S. Navy. He was assigned to the U. S. Army and served with the 1st Army - Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) unit in Korea.
Dr. Paul was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity; the Elks Lodge in Fargo, North Dakota; and the American Medical Association for fifty years. He was also a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church.
Left to mourn Bills passing are his Sister-in-Law: Jean Paul, Creston; his Nephew: John Paul, Green Bay, Wisconsin; his Niece: Jean Anne Paul, San Antonio, Texas; his Great-Niece: Elizabeth Anne Paul, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and his Great-Nephew: Ian Patrick Paul, Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Preceding Bill in death were his parents and Brother: Dr. Jed Paul in 2002.
