Wilma Mary Walter

October 1, 1919 — May 11, 2010

Wilma Mary (Williams) Walter, daughter of John and Myrtle Williams, was born on October 1, 1919 in Taylor County near Guss, Iowa. Wilma entered eternal rest on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of ninety years.
Wilma attended country school and Villisca Community School. After high school, Wilma earned a Cosmetology Degree from cosmetology school in Des Moines.
Wilma married Albert Hunter and daughter Karen was born to that union. They later divorced. Wilma was united in marriage to Harold Eugene Walter on October 1, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska and two children were born, Marcia and Roger.
After their marriage the couple lived in Villisca where Wilma owned and operated a beauty salon. In 1949, the couple began farming in Adams County. Harold and Wilma lived on a couple of other farms prior to the purchase of their current farm in 1956. Wilma started a beauty shop at home shortly after moving to their farm northeast of Prescott and had a successful business for many years.
Wilma was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #719 and the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #1797. She was a former member of the Quilting Club at the Prescott United Church. Wilma loved to do handwork and over the years made many things that she crocheted and knitted, projects both large and small. Wilma loved to go camping, fishing and dancing. She enjoyed dining out at different places and liked to play cards.
Left to cherish Wilma’s memory is her husband, Harold Walter of Prescott; daughter, Marcia (Gary) Almquist of Montgomery, TX; son, Roger Walter and special friend, Tammy Kammerer of Brooks; six grandchildren: John, Kathy, Rita, Doug, Brian and Troy; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Karen Russell; son-in-law, Boyd Russell; granddaughter-in-law, Debbie Russell and two sisters: Ruth Holmes and Opal Gray.
