Barbara Ann (Burn) Carlisle, 84 of Shannon City, Iowa, was born October 15, 1941 to Robert Henry Burn and Helen Allen (Hall) Burn in Newport, Rhode Island. Barb passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 19, 2026. Two mornings later, on April 21, 2026, her husband, Clifford Dean Carlisle passed away peacefully at home at the age of 86 years. Clifford was born May 25, 1939 at home in rural Creston, Iowa, the son of Dean Darwin and Mary Edith (Selser) Carlisle.

As a child, Barb resided in many different states as her father was an Officer in the United States Coast Guard. Clifford was raised in Creston where he graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1957. Following graduation, Cliff Enlisted in the United States Army and served his country from 1957 – 1966. During his service, Cliff served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was Honorably Discharged after 9 years, 8 months and 23 days.

While stationed in Sioux St. Marie, Michigan, Cliff met Barbara and on February 10, 1959, the couple were united in marriage. To this union, 5 children were born: Debra (Bob) Brumfield of Shannon City, Iowa; Kathy Harris of Grant, Iowa; Cindy Hofmeister (Kevin) of Neola, Iowa; Deana Lumbard (Louis) of Diagonal, Iowa; and Dave Carlisle (Lori Fletcher) of Shannon City, Iowa.

Barb raised her children and then went to college as a nontraditional, 40 year-old student to pursue her life-long dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. She was a Public Health nurse for many years as taking care of people was her passion. Cliff worked 34 years at Wellman Dynamics as a Senior Project Engineer and retired in 2001.

Left to cherish Barb and Cliff’s memory are their 5 children; their 19 grandchildren; 31 great- grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; Barb’s brother, Robert (Lara) Burn of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Barb’s sister, Brenda Allen of Colorado. Cliff is also survived by a sister, Donna Pritchard of Winterset, Iowa.

Barbara and Clifford were preceded in death by each of their parents; and their grandson, Joshua. In addition, Cliff was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Carlisle and an infant brother, Keith Carlisle; and his brother-in-law, Gene Pritchard.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family, in care of Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center located at 809 W. Montgomery Street, Creston, Iowa to be used for a scholarship at Southwestern Community College for the Nursing program.
