Clair Loyce Boyd, the son of Alvin Vernie and Nellie (Holkison) Boyd, was born on June 6, 1924 in Creston. Clair graduated Creston High School in 1943 and attended Iowa State University in Ames for two years. He married Jean Mattelyn Boyle on June 23, 1948 in Somonauk, IL. Three girls were born to this union, Connie, Barb and Ronda.
Clair worked for Montgomery Ward in Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin before returning to Creston in 1958 to work with his brother, Dale. They established A.V. Boyd Sons Construction. Clair started Crestland Plumbing Supply and Boyd Appliance in Creston. Clair, Dale and Hiram “Hi” Houghton built the spec buildings that were instrumental in attracting businesses to Creston, including Bunn, Wellman Dynamics, Gits Mfg., and Trolley Candy Company. Clair also built assorted commercial buildings.
Clair was an active member of the Methodist Church and led the Youth Fellowship for five years. He was also a member of The Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs of Creston for many years.
Left to cherish Clair’s memory are his daughter, Ronda Boyd, San Diego, CA; his son-in-law, Pete Marcellus, MD, Branson, MO; five grandchildren: Eric Kilgore, Matt Johnsen, Theron Marcellus, Jennifer Marcellus-Patterson, MD, Amanda Marcellus-Miles; 14 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Joe Henry, Creston; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Clair was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, in 2012; parents; two daughters, Connie Marcellus and Barb Boyd; two brothers, Dale and Don Boyd; sister, Louise Henry; and two sisters-in-law, Leah Boyd and Maxine Boyd.
