Cynthia Sevier, lovingly known to family and friends as Cyndie, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston, Iowa, surrounded by her cherished family. Born March 11, 1961, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Warren Ralph Kirkland and Betty Ann (Kirkland) Hughes. Cyndie’s life was marked by her compassionate spirit and dedication to her loved ones.
Graduating from Orient-Macksburg High School in 1979, Cyndie continued her education at Southwestern Community College in Creston, where she earned an Associate’s Degree to become an Office Administrative Assistant. Most of her working years were devoted to serving the medical field in this role, a testament to her desire to help others. Near the end of her career, Cyndie shared her joy with many as the Donut Maker in the Bakery at Casey’s in Greenfield. Unfortunately, a complete loss of vision a few years ago required her to retire from work. She found solace and purpose in the fact she could still, even without sight, knit blankets and scarves, lovingly crafting them to be donated to those in need.
Cyndie was a deeply private individual, yet those who knew her experienced the immense heart that inspired her to go out of her way for anyone she could. Her family knew her as fun-loving and sassy, with a spirit that could bring laughter to every gathering. An avid wildlife photographer while she was able, her love for nature’s beauty was matched only by her passion for baking. She was especially renowned for her Snickerdoodle cookies, a sweet gift she delighted in sharing with family.
Cyndie was incredibly proud of her son, Spencer Leitzel of Des Moines, Iowa, who was a central joy in her life. She treasured her loving husband, Ron Sevier of Greenfield, Iowa, whom she married on June 15, 2017, in Greenfield. Her family narrative also included her stepdaughters: Ashley Simpson (and her husband Randy) of Ridgeway, Missouri; Chelsea Graham (and her significant other T.J.) of Creston; and Chantel Sevier (with her partner Kyle) of Fontanelle, Iowa. Cyndie also enjoyed ten grandchildren. She is also lovingly survived by her mother, Betty Hughes (significant other Jack) of Winterset, Iowa; and two sisters, Sheri Berry (and her husband Mike) of Haysville, Kansas, and Kathy Kirkland of Waukee, Iowa. An extended circle of three uncles, two aunts, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives carry forward the legacy of her love and kindness.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her father, Warren Kirkland, and her maternal and paternal grandparents, whose memories she held dear.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 13, 2026, from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM at the Macksburg United Methodist Church, located at 202 Church Street, Macksburg, Iowa.
