Dee Ann was born February 16, 1941, in Berwyn, IL to Charles Kenneth Stine and Nellie Imogene (Phillips) Stine. Her family moved several times, following her father’s work with the railroad, which brought them to Creston, IA in 1954. One of the first people she met at her new school was Steve Stults; they graduated from Creston High School in 1959.
After graduating from Truman State University with a math degree in 1962, she and Steve were married and moved to Chicago while Steve finished optometry school. They settled in Creston in 1965 and have been blessed to call it home ever since.
Dee Ann taught math at Southwestern Community College for almost 30 years, working part-time when her children were younger and eventually becoming Department Chair. In 1987, she graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a master’s degree in math. She estimated that she instructed over 5,000 students during her career - it was truly her passion.
Dee Ann was an active member of the United Methodist Church, enjoyed numerous social clubs and groups and never met a stranger. She and Steve enjoyed spending the winter months in Southern California upon retirement.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Steve Stults of Creston; daughter, Shelley (Brian) Maynard of Johnston, IA; son, Ken (Amy) Stults of Creston; sister, Linda (Tom) Ryan of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren: Abbey Maynard, Steve Maynard, and Emily Stults of Des Moines, IA and Michael Stults of Charleston, SC.
Dee Ann was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister
