Dennis Loury

Dennis Eugene Loury, of Afton, Iowa, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026, at Clearview Home in Mt. Ayr, Iowa under the care of the Clearview Home staff and EveryStep Hospice. He was born on October 8, 1947, in Osceola, Iowa.

Dennis graduated from East Union High School with the Class of 1965. On September 11 of that same year, he married Twyla Fern Jacobs in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. Together they built a life centered on family and were blessed with four daughters: Tresa, Debbie, Melissa, and Rebecca.

Dennis spent much of his life working hard and caring for the land. When he was younger, he farmed in Union County near Arispe, Iowa, with his brother Kenneth Clark. He also raised a variety of livestock, mostly cattle, for many years. In addition to his farming years, Dennis spent more than 30 years working for the Farmers Coop in Afton, Iowa.

He will be remembered as a true people person who never met a stranger, even if he did not care much for large crowds. Dennis was known for being a practical joker, and his big, boisterous laugh and constant smile made him easy to recognize and hard to forget. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and made the most of his time with others.

Dennis had many hobbies and interests that brought him joy throughout the years. He enjoyed playing cribbage and cards, and he loved socializing with his many friends. While he was able, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also took part in bowling and pool leagues and was a member of the Sheriff's Posse for several years. Quiet moments also suited him well, especially when he was reading books by his favorite author, Louis LaMour, or singing along to country music by artists such as Johnny Cash, Jim Reeves, and Johnny Horton.

He is survived by his wife, Twyla Loury of Afton, Iowa; his daughters, Tresa Blazek (special friend, Pat Madison) of Prescott, Iowa, Debbie (husband Tony) Richardson of Mt. Ayr, Iowa, Melissa (husband Kevin) Irving of Afton, Iowa, and Rebecca (husband Caleb) McGuire of Afton, Iowa; his 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Nellie Loury of Creston, Iowa; along with several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind the many family members and friends who shared in his life, laughter, and companionship.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Leo Loury and Delilah Irene Loury; his brothers, Dale, Kenneth, and Larry Loury; his sisters, Elta May and Ermma Carnes; his grandson, Jason Anderson; and his sons-in-law, Steve Blazek and Kelly Anderson.

There are no services planned at this time. Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center of Creston was in charge of arrangements.

Dennis will be remembered for his hardworking life, his love for family and friends, his humor, and the warmth he carried wherever he went. His memory will remain a blessing to those who knew and loved him.
