Donald Lynn Miller was born in Creston, Iowa on October 13, 1956, the son of Clifford Arthur and Pauline Elizabeth (Fry) Miller. Don was raised and educated in Creston where he would reside his whole life. Don served his country for 3 years, serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1974 -1977. Upon his return to civilian life, Don met Peggy Cottrell and the couple later married.
“Zach” as he was known by his many friends worked for Smith Concrete for several years before beginning a long career driving a Road Maintainer for Union County Secondary Roads. Don also plowed snow from the county roads in the winter, doing his best to keep the roads open for the rural residents of Union County. Due to ill health, “Zach” retired in 2011. As long as he was able, Don spent many days in retirement lending a helping hand to anyone who needed help.
Donald was a member of the former Assembly of God church in Creston where he led the Royal Rangers and had a positive influence on many people over the years. Don loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid KC Chiefs fan and was directly responsible for his family all being diehard fans. When he could, he enjoyed many hours spent at McKinley Lake with his friends, known as the 3 Amigos.
Don is survived by his daughters: Crystal Miller of Afton, Iowa and Tyanna (Justin) Holker of Adel, Iowa; 9 grandchildren: Jonathan Stewart, Elizabeth Cunningham, Jaelah Holker, Zachary Gillum, Boone Pryor, Jayden Holker, Jessin Holker, Jenah Holker and Ella Pryor.
