Ethel Marie Carson, the daughter of Wendeline Vincent and Helen Irene (May) Miller, was born on January 19, 1929 in Creston, Iowa. Ethel entered eternal rest on August 13, 2015 at Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston at the age of eighty-six years, six months, and twenty-five days.
Ethel graduated from St. Malachy School and later received her G.E.D. On June 22, 1945 she married John Warren Carson in Beaufort, SC. After they were married, Ethel and John lived in San Diego, California and Chicago, Illinois while John served in the United States Navy. After John’s discharge, the couple moved to Creston.
Ethel worked at United Grocery Store, then Bray’s Grocery. She then went to work for Iowa Southern Utilities as a Clerk and worked her way up to District Accountant. Ethel retired from Iowa Southern Utilities in 1994. In 1996, she went to work part-time for Akin Do-It-Best in Creston until retiring again in 2010.
Ethel was a member of the First Christian Church; the Greater Regional Hospital Auxiliary; Nimble Nees Bowling League; the South Valley Quilters; and the Pinochle Card Club in Afton;. Ethel loved to cook, crochet, quilt, embroider, and tend to her flower gardens. She enjoyed vacationing in Minnesota and Las Vegas, Nevada.
Left to cherish Ethel’s memory are her children: Jerry (Penny) Carson, Creston; Rita (Harvey) Weinberg, West Des Moines; and Judy (P.K.) Davis, Creston; her grandchildren: Aaron, Anne, and Sarah Beth Weinberg; Liza Cox; and Jessie (Jared) Carter; Six Great-Grandchildren: Mason, Tatem; and Tristen Cox; Max Mickey; and Rohm and Adella Carter; her sister: Pat Schaefer, Greenfield; her brother: David (Mary) Miller, Creston; a sister-in-law: Susie Miller, Creston; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Ethel in death were her parents; her husband in 1994; her infant daughter, Sandra; her sisters: Helen (and Bobby) Jackson; Lucille (and David) Ossian; Doris (and Frank) Young; and Maie (and Max) Jensen; her brothers: Vincent Miller; Thomas Miller and Clyde Miller; and brother-in-law, Earl Schaefer.
