Gary "G.L." Miller, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on August 26, 2025, at Corning Specialty Care, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born on April 29, 1941, in Creston, Iowa, to Marshall and Vera Miller, who have preceded him in death.

After graduating from Corning High School with the Class of 1959, G.L. enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on March 17, 1960. He proudly served during the Vietnam Era in Japan with the VMA-211 Unit as an Ordinance man, earning the nickname "Boots." He was also part of the Wake Island Avengers, a distinction he cherished throughout his life.

Following his honorable discharge from the Marines, Gary was united in marriage to Luanne Joy Curtis in 1964 and they were later blessed with 2 daughters, Deanna and Jody. The couple later divorced. G.L. worked for the City of Corning a few years. He then began working for Red Star Mill and was a valuable employee for several years. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own business, "Rafter M Portable Welding." He was not only dedicated to his work but was also an active member of the Iowa Blacksmith & Welder’s Association (IBWA). G.L. found love again with Joy Paulette Sheridan. They were later married in the Chapel at CHI Hospital in Corning.

G.L. had a kind and soft-spoken personality, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was a devoted Mason and long-time member of Instruction Lodge #275 in Corning. His adventurous spirit never missed an auction, and he had a particular fondness for collecting tools like hammers and wood planers. G.L. loved animals, especially horses and dogs, and the joy they brought to his life was immeasurable.

He shared many cherished memories with Joy, his wife. They enjoyed attending area dances together every Saturday night, creating lasting moments that will be remembered fondly.

G.L. is survived by his wife, Joy Miller of Corning, Iowa; his daughters, Deanna (Dave) Roth of Cumming, Iowa, and Jody (Kevin) Smith of Winterset, Iowa; two grandsons, Blade (Tylar) Smith and Dalton Smith; a step-grandson, Matt Roth; step-granddaughters, Taylor (Addison) Aubry and Ashley Felix; and three step-great-grandchildren, Jayden (Bella) Roth, James Felix, and Callum Aubry. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy (Bob) Bowman of Winterset, Iowa, along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

His presence will be greatly missed, but the legacy of love and kindness he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of those he touched. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family, to be determined.

A visitation with family will be held on September 4, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 5:30 PM, at the Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center in Corning, Iowa. Mr. Larry Johnson will officiate. Masonic Rites will be conducted by Instruction Lodge #275. Military Honors provided by the United States Marine Corp.
