Helen Sickler, born on January 16, 1938, in Adams County, Iowa, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, Virginia. She was a cherished mother, dedicated teacher, and beloved member of her community.

Helen’s educational journey began at Corning High School, from which she graduated in 1955. She continued her studies at Ottumwa Heights College, earning her Teacher Certificate between 1955 and 1957. Helen began her career as a teacher in Cherokee, Iowa, where she educated young minds from 1957 to 1959 before embarking on her most important role as a homemaker.

As a devoted mother of four, Helen instilled the values of education, hard work, and compassion in her children. She is survived by her son, Kelly Sickler of Church Road, Virginia; daughters, Karla (husband Mike) Jelonek of York, Pennsylvania, Ardith Klamut of Fairfax, Virginia, and Rayann (husband Anthony) Palazzolo of Santa Ana, California. Helen also leaves behind seven loving grandchildren: Kyler (wife Katelyn) Jelonek, Karson Jelonek, Karissa Jelonek, Nicole Klamut, Jessica Klamut, Gianni Palazzolo, and Max Palazzolo, and one great-granddaughter: Kennedy Jelonek

Helen is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Dixie Peterson of Mesa, Arizona, and Donnis (husband Bruce) Reid of Omaha, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Sickler, who passed away in 2003, as well as her parents, George Henry Holbrook and Anne Martha (Miller) Holbrook. Her extended family in the presence of angels includes her father-in-law, Earl Sickler; mother-in-law, Ethel Sickler; son-in-law, Mike Klamut; and siblings, Justina King, Richard Holbrook, John Holbrook, Ed Holbrook, and Joan Darrah.

Helen’s impact on those around her was profound and lasting. She will be remembered for her warmth, unwavering support, and the love she shared with her family and friends.

Visitation will take place on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center in Corning, Iowa, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the Rosary said at 5:00 PM. Family will receive friends 5:30 – 7:00 PM. There will be a Mass Saturday, February 28, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Corning, Iowa, commencing at 10:00 AM, followed by a burial at Corning Calvary Cemetery, Corning, Iowa.

Helen Sickler will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, inspiring them to honor her memory through kindness and love.
