James E. Roeder

March 17, 1924 — July 20, 2017

James Edward Roeder, the son of Lawrence Joseph and Rose Ella (Oenbring) Roeder, was born March 17, 1924 in Creston. James entered eternal rest on July 20, 2017 at Greater Regional Hospice House, Creston, Iowa at the age of ninety-three years, four months, and three days.
James graduated from Arispe High School with the Class of 1942. James enlisted in the United States Army on June 5, 1946 serving as a Personnel Administration Tech in Company G, 1st Infantry Regiment. James received a WW II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 23, 1947.
On January 31, 1948, James married Dorothy Rosalee Berry in Greenfield. James began his working life at Kerr-Cochran in Creston as a mechanic. He was a District Supervisor for J.I. Case Company, transferring from Creston to Fort Dodge in 1956 and then to Spencer in 1957. In 1963, he accepted the position of Marketing Manager with Farmaster Products Company in Shenandoah, Iowa. In 1975, James and his wife purchased an Ace Hardware Store in Villisca and operated it until retiring in 1986. They returned to live in Creston in 1988.
James was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Jim was a very hard working, modest and private person, not one for any fanfare. He was a devoted husband, father and brother.
Left to cherish James’ memory are two daughters: Diana Roeder (husband David Silk), of Rosemount, MN; and Cynthia (husband Arthur) Wohlers of Tucson, AZ; one sister: Ann Hawks of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; one niece; one nephew; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding James in death were his parents, his wife, Dorothy, in October, 2016; his sister, Kathleen Spring; brother, Thomas J. Roeder; and brother-in-law, John Hawks.
