Jean Ann Sheridan, daughter of Wayne and Lenore (Adair) Pease, was born March 30, 1948, in Leon, Iowa. Jean entered eternal rest on Friday, February 17, 2017, at Greater Regional Hospice House, Creston, Iowa, at the age of sixty-eight years, ten months, and eighteen days.
Jean grew up in Lamoni and attended the Green country school and graduated in 1966 from Lamoni High School. She obtained a master’s degree from both Northwest Missouri State and Drake University, and also attended Graceland University. Jean moved to Afton in 1970 and on August 2, 1970 she married Donald Harold Sheridan in Grandview, Missouri.
Jean had a love for education and worked for the East Union Community School District where she taught English and later was the guidance counselor. She also was the head of the drama program. Jean was also employed by Southwestern Community College as an adjunct professor in Psychology and English.
She was very active in many organizations, including establishing the Learning Center in Creston, the Cancer Honor Ride, East Union Dollars for Scholars, and numerous others that benefited from her time and talents. Jean liked photography, origami, writing, working in her flower gardens, and doing crafts. Jean’s biggest joy came from being a grandma to Owen and Aubrey.
Left to cherish Jean’s memory are her loving husband, Donald of Afton; son, Matt Sheridan and wife Becca of Winterset; grandchildren, Owen and Aubrey; brothers, James Pease and wife Diane of Walla Walla, Washington and Tom Pease and wife Pam of Lamoni; sister-in-law, Marlene Berna and husband James of Crystal Lake, Illinois and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life Service for Jean will be held at a later date. Times and dates for the service will be posted when more information becomes available.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the South Central Iowa Community Foundation for the following Endowment Funds: East Union Dollars for Scholars; East Union ASPIRE; Union County Conservation. Memorials may also be directed to the Learning Center in Creston.
