Mary Joan Waters was born on May 28, 1948, at the Bristow Hotel in Massena, Iowa, to Terrence John Waters and Kathleen Marie (Casey) Waters. She attended and graduated from Cumberland & Massena Community School in Massena.

Joan married Larry Martin Carr on June 7, 1969, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Massena. From this union, they welcomed four children: Marcus Donald, Dana Jean, Nickolas Martin, and Masse Marie.

A dedicated and hard-working woman, Joan held many roles throughout her life. She worked for the Adam’s County Treasurer’s Office, Ray’s Feed and Seed, England Tax Service, as well as waitressing at various restaurants. She also loved practicing reflexology, where she found purpose in helping others through healing and heartfelt conversation. Joan managed the Adams County Speedway Concession Stand, a role she cherished as it allowed her to work alongside her family, mentor young adults, and spend countless late nights at the racetrack with friends.

Over the years, Joan enjoyed cheering on her children and grandchildren in their sporting events, drinking coffee with friends, watching NASCAR and dirt track racing, hunting for antiques with her sisters and sewing. She especially loved her time as a snowbird in Florida, where she soaked up the warm sun, formed lasting friendships, and chased every evening sunset.

Joan is survived by her husband, Larry Carr of Corning; her children and their spouses: Marc (Tami) Carr of Port Charlotte, FL; Dana (Scott) Price of Bellevue, NE; Nick (Beth) Carr of Glenwood, IA; and Masse (David) Poetting of Ankeny, IA. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kelsea (Austin) Heesacker of Bellevue, NE; Madison Lambert of Bellevue, NE; Joshua Lambert (Sydney) of Ardmore, OK; Emily (Andrew) Alsot of Glenwood, IA; Zach (Lexi) Carr of Waukee, IA; Ethan and Hayden Carr of Glenwood, IA; and Blakely, Harper, and Noah Poetting of Ankeny, IA. Great-grandsons Theodore and August Alsot of Glenwood, IA; many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved; and her brother, William Waters of Massena, also survive her.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Michael “Mick” Waters and Timothy Waters; her sisters, Kathleen “Kim” Wood and Beth Mills; and her twin sister, Jean Young.
