John Murphy

John Robert Murphy was born October 28, 1943, the son of George and Clara Vail (Hutchison) Murphy in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He passed away Friday, August 2, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 75.
John served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on August 28, 1961. He worked as a welder for Kelloggs and as a janitor for Omaha Public Schools. In 1989 he became pastor of the Stringtown Church and served there until 1992. On August 7, 1992 he married Marvel DeEtta Fern Means in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The two later divorced, but remained friends.
John is survived by six children; two step-children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; one sister and friend Marvel Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents.
