It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Justin Byers, a devoted father, grandfather, and master locksmith, who left this world peacefully in his sleep on June 18, 2025, at his residence. Born on July 28, 1964, in Osage, Iowa, Justin lived a life filled with love, dedication, and passion for his family, his craft, and his cherished hobbies.
Justin was a man of hard work and unmatched drive. He cultivated a successful career as a master locksmith, a testament to his unwavering commitment to his craft, as well as his love for woodworking, which he studied diligently at college, graduating with an Associate’s Degree from SWCC. His craftsmanship was not only a means of livelihood; it was a source of pride that he passed down to his family, fostering a deep appreciation for quality and creativity among those who knew him.
Known for his caring nature and supportive spirit, Justin made countless memories with his children. He was a father who always wanted the best for his kids. Kayla fondly remembers how she would sprint away from him, losing her shoes along the way as she ran away. Deven holds onto a precious memory of receiving a letter from his dad while he was in boot camp—a simple yet powerful moment that would stay with him forever, marking Justin's pride in his son's journey. Their bond deepened when Deven moved in with Justin; together they began running each night, solidifying a connection that shaped Deven into the person he is today.
His legacy extends beyond just his craft; it is embedded in the hearts of his surviving family members. Justin leaves behind his beloved son, Deven Byers, and daughter-in-law, Jessie Byers, along with his cherished daughter, Kayla Byers, and his two granddaughters, McKenna and Freya. He is also survived by his siblings: Bambi Byers, Brian Peterson, Noella Peterson, Burt Peterson, Marcie Peterson, Rob Carson, Carmen Lange, Bill Lange, and Heather Butler. While Justin’s parents, Bob and Joy Byers, and his birth mother have preceded him in death, their memory lives on in the stories and lessons he imparted to his loved ones.
The joy of grandparenthood lit up Justin's life. He adored spending time with his granddaughters, McKenna and Freya, cherishing every moment they played together. His passion for motorcycles, particularly Harley Davidson, was filled with stories of rides and adventures, echoing his adventurous spirit. Justin enjoyed tinkering, fixing things, and dedicating time to his hobbies, from working on his car to capturing the beauty of woodworking.
As we gather our thoughts around the life of Justin Byers, we remember a man who embodied kindness, dedication, and an enduring love for his family. His indomitable spirit will forever resonate within us, inspiring us to chase our dreams, cherish our moments, and hold our loved ones close. Thank you, Justin, for your guidance, your strength, and your endless love. You will be greatly missed.
