Keith LeRoy Strahorn passed from this life Friday, August 7, 2015 at HCI Hospice House
in Creston, Iowa.
Keith LeRoy Strahorn was born June 24, 1921 to Ray L. and Alva (Wilson) Strahorn in
Iowa Falls, Iowa. Keith married his high school sweetheart, Martha Jeanne Russ, and
they celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2012. Keith was a staff sergeant and gunnery
instructor in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. After the war he worked as a
commercial pilot and acrobatic flight instructor in Marshaltown, Iowa. Keith and Jeanne
owned and operated Strahorn Hardware in Kanawha, Iowa and later purchased Iowa Falls
Roofing Company and relocated to Iowa Falls. Keith and Jeanne retired to Tucson,
Arizona in 2000 where they enjoyed golf, travel and friendships during their retirement
years before moving to Prairie View Assisted Living in Creston in 2012.
Keith graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1939 and Ellsworth Junior College in
1941.
Keith was a Master Mason, member of the El Kahir Shrine and an Exalted Ruler of the
Iowa Falls Elks Club, and the Tuscon American Legion. He enjoyed travel, golf, reading
and card games.
Keith was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne; parents, Ray and Alva Strahorn; sisters
Gladys Smith, Golda Fredricks, Helen Rosene, and brothers Frank (in childhood) and
Kenneth.
Keith is survived by his daughters Kathy Strahorn of Tucson, Arizona, Janet Knock
(Karl) of Creston, Iowa, Barbara Strahorn of Tucson, Arizona and grandchildren Joel
Lown (Jessica) of Des Moines, Iowa and Zachary Schaefer (Emily Rhodes) of Urbana,
Illinois, nieces and nephews Martie Higgins of Los Angeles, California Judi Wiscus of
Sioux City, South Dakota, Beverly Chappell of Portland, Oregon, Bob Smith of
Muscatine, Iowa and several great nieces and nephews.
Memorials in his name can be made to the Robert W. Barlow Memorial Public Library,
Iowa Falls, Iowa; TEPOA library, Tucson Estates, Tucson, Arizona, or Homestead
Assisted Living and Memory Care in Creston, Iowa.
