Larry Haggerty

Larry Haggerty, affectionately known to many as "Hag," passed away peacefully at his home on May 16, 2026. Born on March 8, 1939, in Adams County, Iowa, Larry lived his entire life in the community he loved, spending most of his years in Corning.

Larry graduated from Corning High School in 1956 and proudly served two years in the National Guard. He dedicated 30 years of his career as an auto mechanic for Corning Community Schools. Alongside his mechanic work, he farmed in Adams County, finding joy in spending time in the fields planting and raising row crops.

He was a man of many interests. In his younger days, Larry was an active member of Happy Hollow Country Club and a former member of the Corning American Legion. He was also an enthusiastic fan of stock car racing. One of his proudest accomplishments was his success at Antique Tractor Pulls. He was equally proud of his 48-year marriage to his beloved wife, Darlene, who passed away in 2009, and of his two children.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Darcie Murdock of Bloomington, Minnesota, and his son, Rex (Melissa) Haggerty of Corning, Iowa. He was a loving grandfather to four grandchildren: David "Dylan" (Amanda) Murdock, Madeline Murdock, Collin Murdock, and Connor Haggerty. Larry was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Augustus Murdock and Murphy Murdock. His family circle includes his brother Donnie (Janelle) Haggerty of Loveland, Colorado, four nieces, one nephew and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; his parents, Lawrence Ray Haggerty and Geraldine (Sheridan) Houck; half-brother Richard Houck; step-brother Duane Houck; and step-father "Bus" Houck.

Visitation for Larry will be held on June 13, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center in Corning, Iowa, located at 701 7th Street. Following visitation, a memorial service will take place on the same day at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home with Juleen Krings, Celebrant. Burial will follow at Prairie Rose Cemetery, rural Adams County, Iowa.

Larry Haggerty’s life story is one of steadfast dedication—to his family, community, and the fields he tended. He will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.
