Larry Sweeney

Creston, Iowa

 

Larry Alan Sweeney was born April 11, 1950 in Creston, the son of Francis William and Marjorie Alice (Knodle) Sweeney.  Larry was raised and educated in Prescott, Iowa where he graduated from Prescott High School with the Class of 1968.  On October 4, 1969, Larry was united in marriage to Peggy Louise Morris and to this union, 2 daughters were born:  Holly and Betsy.  Larry joined the Army National Guard in 1970 and served his country until being discharged in 1976 and resided in Creston most of his adult life.  Larry and Peggy divorced in 1987. 

 

Larry drove a semi-truck all across the country, traveling coast-to-coast for nearly 30 years.  When he was younger, Larry attended flight school 
and he always had a passion for music. It carried him through the tough times and he was a phenomenal trombone player in his younger years.
 Listening to his radio was his daily pastime.

 

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jon Sweeney; his former wife, Peggy Sweeney and his nephews:  Shane Sweeney and Lucas Sweeney.

 

Left to mourn his passing are his daughters:  Holly (husband Aaron) Cottrell of Johnston, Iowa and Betsy (husband Andrew) Hunt of Britt, Iowa; 5 grandchildren:  Dylan (Lauren) Cottrell of Johnston, Iowa; Nicholas (Katelyn) Hunt of Britt, Iowa; Logan Cottrell (significant other, Lauren Steffensmeier) of Johnston, Iowa; Tristan Hunt (significant other, Rylee Horstman) of Pella, Iowa and Macie Cottrell of Johnston, Iowa; 2 great-granddaughters:  Briley Hunt and Parker Cottrell.  Larry is also survived by a brother, Kevin (Debbie) Sweeney of Lenox, Iowa; 2 sisters:  Alice Reed of Prescott, Iowa and Shelley Sweeney of West Des Moines, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
