LaVaun Reinke

November 3, 1931 — December 26, 2023

Indianola, Iowa formerly of Creston

Garland LaVaun Templeton, a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 with Suzie, Doug and Cindy by her side.  LaVaun was born on November 3, 1931, in Nodaway Township, Page County,  Iowa .  She was the daughter of Cecil Vernon and Beulah Ruth (Young) Templeton.

As a young girl, LaVaun found comfort in sharing a bed with her parents until her sister Edith Sue came into the world. Years later, when her sister Marilyn was born after a long wait of nearly 14 years, LaVaun affectionately nicknamed her "Mike," a nickname that became the one everyone called Marilyn.

LaVaun married Melvin "Sandy" Fulton married, October 6, 1951 and together they welcomed four children into their lives - Linda Joan, Terry Douglas, Cynthia Kay, and Janice Sue. Later in life, LaVaun found her true love in Roland Reinke and they were married on March 12, 1991, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, they embarked on many adventures around the world, exploring new places by cruise ships and airplanes.

LaVaun had a zest for life and cherished her collection of Barbie dolls. She had a passion for jewelry and even though she couldn't possess anything like the Crown Jewels she saw in London, England, it became a lighthearted joke with her beloved Roland.  Another of LaVaun's passions was her cherished white furniture. Only allowed to sit on it during holidays and special occasions, her grandchildren lovingly referred to it as the "Christmas Couches." Ron and LaVaun also loved treasure hunting at antique stores and garage sales together.

LaVaun's legacy lives on through her children - Linda Brown, Terry Fulton, Cindy Hoadley, and Suzie Morgan - who gave her seven grandsons. Her joy multiplied when she became a great-grandmother to ten beautiful great-grandchildren.  LaVaun’s family remembers her fondly as a loving and caring soul who always showed a keen interest in the activities and sports of her grandchildren. Even during the last four years of her life, when she resided with Suzie and Doug in Indianola and later at Vintage Hills, she remained connected to their lives.

LaVaun was preceded in death by her loving husband Ronald Reinke, her parents Cecil and Beulah Templeton, her sister Edith Booth, and brother-in-law Bill Booth.

She is survived by her 4 children:  Linda Brown of Lenox, Iowa, Terry Fulton of Williston, Florida, Cindy Hoadley of Greenfield, Iowa and Suzie (Doug) Morgan of Indianola, Iowa; 7 grandsons:  Darren Brown, Jason Brown, Ryan Morgan, Justin Brown, Erik Hoadley, Shawn Morgan and Evan Hoadley; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister Marilyn (Byron) Brown of Prescott, Iowa; brother Gary (Diane)Templeton of Nixa, Missouri; step-daughters Rhonda, Marla, and Debbie Reinke; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who were touched by her presence.

LaVaun grew up with several life-long friends, including June Orth, Joni Loudon and Izzy Jenkins. They had many fun times together, up to the time that health made it impossible to go places together.  June Orth currently resides in Minnesota.

LaVaun's life was filled with lasting memories shared with those she loved most and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
