Burial will be at the Greenfield Cemetery with Military Honors by Williamson American Legion Post 719. Memorials may be directed to Alegent Health Mercy Hospital and/or Pescott Fire and Rescue.
Lawrence Alvah Blazek, the son of Glen William and Velma Ann (Dubin) Blazek, was born on June 1, 1936, near Nevinville, in Adams County, Iowa. Lawrence entered eternal rest on March 2, 2008, at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, Iowa, at the age of seventy-one years, nine months, and one day.
Lawrence attended Richland Township School and graduated with the Class of 1953. Lawrence served in the U.S. Army Reserve for six years. On December 6, 1964, Lawrence married Viola “Vi” Thorne at Otis Chapel Church, Richland, Iowa, near Orient.
Lawrence lived most of his life in the Adams County area. Lawrence farmed all of his life and raised livestock, mainly cattle. He also worked for S.W. Iowa Egg for about six years and worked at the John Deere Store in Creston for a few years. Lawrence was always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors and friends.
Lawrence served on the Adams County Extension for 4-H. He loved to collect toy tractors and loved cats and had many on the farm.
Left to cherish Lawrences memory is his wife, Vi Blazek, Prescott; Daughter, Brenda (husband David) Fooken, Minburn, IA; Son, Dennis Blazek, Highlands Ranch, CO; Two Granddaughters: Jessica Fooken and Megan Fooken both of Minburn, IA; Brothers: Kenneth (wife Estelle) Blazek, Orient; Bill (wife Alice) Blazek, Fontanelle; and Vern (wife Meridith) Blazek, Orient; Sister: Jean Davis, Prescott; Brother-in-Law: Roger (wife Irma) Webb, Congerville, IL; Sisters-in-Law: Jenny (husband Wes) Medlen, Lacine, KS and Arlene Overholtzer, Creston; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Preceding Lawrence in death were his Parents; Sister: Faye Webb; Brothers-in-Law: Carl Overholtzer and Walt Roberts; a Niece, a Nephew, and one Great-Niece.
