Leslie Jackson

August 18, 1927 — July 14, 2014

Leslie Orval Jackson, the second child of Chester and Myra (Plants) Jackson was born on August 18, 1927 in Adams County, Iowa. Leslie entered eternal rest on Monday, July 14, 2014 at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, IA at the age of eighty-six years, 10 months, 26 days.
He grew up on the family farm, attended Jasper #6 Country School through 8th grade and then graduated from Corning High school with the class of 1945. It was during the senior skip day that he met the love of his life, Mary Lou Corbin.
Leslie entered the army in 1946 and served 18 months in the army post office during the occupation of Japan. Upon the completion of his army days, Leslie and Mary Lou married on August 24, 1947 and settled on a farm in rural Adams County. He continued his love of farming for the next 60 years. He worked hard to maintain the family farm even when it meant taking a nighttime job while still farming.
Leslie was a dedicated member of his community. He was an active member of the Fairview Church of Christ from birth until it closed in 2008. He served on numerous boards, which included the REC, the Fairview Church, and the Prairie Rose Cemetery. Additionally, he was a 4-H leader for the Jasper Specialists Club, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner and a member of Eastern Star.
Leslie loved his family and valued his friends, treasuring the time he spent with them. He was a good listener and his thoughtful, quiet and sometimes humorous reflections were appreciated by all.
Leslie is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Lou, his 4 children: Leslie (Florence) Jackson Jr. of Lino Lakes, MN, Sharon (John) Garvey of Van Meter, IA, Patricia (Russ) Dempster of Ankeny, IA, and Pamela (Paul) Wolfe of Phoenix, AZ. 8 Grandchildren: Todd (Liz) Jackson, Becky (Scott) Sonmore, Brenna Garvey, Brann (Keegan) Garvey, Peter (Sarah) Gumina, Abby Gumina, Jeremiah Wolfe and Zachariah Wolfe.
