Lillian Leonard, daughter of Robert Hiram and Anna (Cohrs) Thomas born on November 20, 1931, near Gallatin, Missouri, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, at Creston Specialty Care, surrounded by her loving family. Lillian, who graduated from Corning High School in 1950, dedicated her life to being a devoted housewife and farm wife. Her warmth and nurturing spirit were evident in the many family gatherings holidays, birthdays, and trips that brought her loved ones together.
Her exceptional culinary skills made her a cherished figure in the household, as she consistently provided delicious meals not only for her family but also for those who lent a helping hand on the farm. A fun-loving and outgoing individual, Lillian took pleasure in spending time outdoors, tending to her vast flower gardens, and maintaining her yard.
Lillian was a proud lifetime member of the Eastern Star, having held a state office, and was actively involved in her community as a member of Oak Hill Church and later Fairview Church. She found joy in nurturing her family, and her proudest accomplishments included raising three children—Randy, Doug, and Kathy—whom she supported in their endeavors.
Lillian is survived by her son, Doug Leonard, and his wife Michelle of Corning, Iowa; her daughter, Kathy Leonard, and her husband Chuck Johnson of Lenox, Iowa; her grandchildren: Anna Leonard (Casey Eddy) of Corning, Iowa, Sarah (Brett) McVey of Treynor, Iowa, Aaron Leonard (fiancé Haley Holbrook) of Papillion, Nebraska, Jennifer (Rowdy) Dymond of Bedford, Iowa, LaDanya Nelson (dear friend Brett Stamps) of Gravity, Iowa, Ashley (Seth) Schafer of Comanche, Texas; and her great-grandchildren: Quaid Eddy, Lucy Eddy, Curan Eddy, Dally Dymond, Maverick Dymond, Piper McVey, Payson Schafer, Oakley Ward. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Carol Thomas, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Hiram and Anna Thomas; her husband, Harold, in 2013; her son, Randall, in 2002; her sister, Marian Barrans; her brother, Robert Thomas; and her brother-in-law, Bill Barrans, and her special friend and companion Arnold Leonard.
Lillian Leonard’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her spirit of kindness, love for family, and dedication to nurturing those around her will be fondly remembered by everyone fortunate enough to have shared in her life.
