Lois Rodman

Dec 7, 1931 — Jul 7, 2026

Lenox

Lois Marie Bennett Rodman, age 94 years and 7 months, passed away on July 7, 2026 at Vintage Park, Lenox IA. She was born December 7, 1931 to William Donald and Bernice Margaret (House) Bennett in Platte Township, Taylor County, Iowa. The middle of three siblings, Ivan Warner and Bessie Joan, she grew up attending country school. After 8th grade she attended Clearfield High School where she played half-court basketball and graduated second highest in the class of 1950.

As a young woman she enjoyed going dancing and Amtrak trips to and from Omaha where she moved in 1951 and worked for Mutual of Omaha.

When her sister began dating a new gentleman, Lois began writing to his brother who had been drafted during the Korean conflict and sent to Alaska. After his discharge and return home they began dating.

Lois was united in marriage to Daryl Eugene Rodman on February 7, 1954 in Clearfield, IA. They moved to Quincy Township in Northern Adams County where they farmed with Daryl's family and were blessed with son David Dean and daughter Debra Lynn.

In 1960, the family moved to Omaha, NE where Daryl worked in construction and Lois got a job in the business office of Immanuel Hospital where she worked for 30 years. According to Lois, she missed one day of work in all those years when Daryl went to the end of the driveway that morning to retrieve the paper, couldn't see the stop sign at the end of the block due to heavy fog, and came back inside to tell her she wasn't driving to work in such dangerous conditions.

The couples' intention was to return to Iowa to farm in their retirement, but due to health issues Daryl had to retire earlier than expected. They chose instead to purchase a house in Lenox, IA which brought them close enough to care for their granddaughter Sara before she was in school and during summers after.

With a life-time love of reading, in retirement Lois served as Treasurer on the Board of the Lenox Library for 12 years, volunteered on Saturday mornings, and donated old newspapers and read books. While Daryl was an “early bird” Lois was a “night owl” staying up to read into the night. Her familiar quote was “I was always a reader”.

Lois also enjoyed yearly trips with her son and daughter-in-law to Las Vegas, community dinners, annual celebrations like the 4th of July in Clearfield, and family reunions from the annual Jeans' cousins reunion to the Bennett family Thanksgiving.

She is survived by her son David and wife Cindy Rodman of Omaha; granddaughter Sara Ramsey and son-in-law Reldon Ramsey of Corning; nieces Barbara (Jim) Parrish, Lenox; Diane (Roger) Knudson, Galena, MO; Marilyn Hildner, Berkley, MI; Carolyn (Ron) Milmquist of Omaha; Karen (Ross) Zuhlke, Sterling, NE; Sharon Parker and Frank Gardener of Council Bluffs; nephews Keith (Jacquie) Bennett, Lenox; Tim (Janet) Bennett, Clearfield; Larry Parker of Omaha; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She is proceeded in death by her parents; husband Daryl; daughter Debra; brother and sister-in-law Ivan and Jane Bennett; sister Bessie Joan Parker; nephew William “Bob” Parker; great-nieces Shevannah Kuldashev and Mariah Hargreaves; and Bob (Robert) Parker and Bob Hildner.
