Lorri Lynn Curtis Juarez was born September 22, 1957 at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa to Darleen June (Wilmarth) Curtis and J. Dean Curtis. Lorri passed away on Friday, September 12, 2014 at her home in Omaha, Nebraska with her loving husband at her side.
Lorri lived near Guss at the farm, and went to Fairview Country School for Kindergarten. In 1st grade she attended school in Creston and in 2nd grade she attended Corning School and continued there until 6th grade.
In 7th grade, Lorri and her family moved to the farm in Lenox, Iowa and she was raised there with her four siblings. She graduated from Lenox High School in 1975. She loved to play the organ and played many times at recitals and the Iowa State Fair. She was an active member in 4-H and became a wonderful seamstress. She loved to play basketball and received honorable mention in the Tall Corn Conference. She was also in Rainbow for years and became a Worthy Advisor.
Lorri attended Tarkio College in Tarkio, MO. In three years she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 1978.
Lorri was a social worker and started out working in Douglas County and then worked for the State of Nebraska. She then became a social worker for Title 20 and later worked in state licensing for daycare.
Lorri married J.J. Juarez on July 11, 1984. They were married for 30 years and friends for 37 years. J.J. was the love of her life and he lovingly took care of her when she was sick.
Lorri loved animals and had dogs, cats, and birds which she treasured. She volunteered at the Omaha Public Library and was featured by the Omaha World Herald as a “City Angel” for her volunteer time at the library and her work with people. She won third place at the Henry Doorly Zoo Photo Contest sponsored by the World Herald.
Lorri was preceded in death by J. Dean Curtis in 1963 and by her father, Roswell Glen Peterson in 1999, who adopted her.
She is survived by her husband, J.J. of Omaha; her mother, Darleen Peterson Rice and Hyatt Rice; her sister, Kim (John) Weatherhead, Hainesville, IL; her brothers: Lynn Peterson, West Des Moines, IA; Jamie Peterson, Creston; and Chad Peterson, Lenox. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Leslie Weatherhead, Iowa City, IA; Josh Weatherhead, Windermere, FL; Matt Weatherhead, Jacksonville, FL; Kristen Weatherhead, Hainesville, IL; Jacob Peterson, West Des Moines; and Carter Peterson, Lenox; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
