Lucinda “Lucy” Renee Barnes, 56 of Lenox, Iowa was born December 20, 1968, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She passed away peacefully at her home in Lenox, Iowa on October 23, 2025. Lucinda grew up in Indianola, Iowa, where she attended school and formed many cherished memories. Later, she moved to Creston, Iowa, making it her home for many years before settling in Lenox in 2016.
Lucinda cherished being a mother. The loss of her son, Shane brought immense heartbreak, but a few years later, the birth of her daughter, Mandee brought new hope and joy into her life. After moving to Creston, she met her long-time friend, Teresa. The arrival of her granddaughter, Torri marked another turning point, as Lucinda discovered a deep love for being a grandmother, and then again when she gained 5 more step-grandchildren. She loved to have them over for weekend stays and always looked forward to family gatherings. She treasured time with her close friends, Kelly and Traci, going on all sorts of adventures together. Lucinda was well known for her compassionate care as a CNA, dedicating over 30 years to touching the lives of countless residents. She never met a stranger and always made those around her feel welcome. Her residents and coworkers were her family. Music, especially listening to Van Halen, was a source of happiness and comfort throughout her life. Another thing she enjoyed was shopping. Going to Walmart or ordering things online was always something she looked forward to. The memories can go on and on because Lucinda lived a full life in the 56 years she was here.
Preceding Lucy in death were her parents, Ronald and LaVonne (Dahm) Barnes; her son, Shane Barnes; her lifelong partner, Darryl Steeve; her fur baby, Linus; and many other relatives and friends.
Lucinda is survived by her daughter, Mandee Barnes (Son-in-law, Tim McVey) of Creston, Iowa; her granddaughters: Torri Lawrence, Gemma McVey, Zapheria McVey, Millie McVey; her grandsons: Zarek McVey and Eros McVey; her soul sisters: Kelly Richie and Traci Nelson; along with many other friends and residents who loved her deeply.
Lucinda will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
